The IKE Solution

IKE revolutionizes the tedious, error-prone and expensive utility pole field data collection process.

Device – This rugged field data collection device captures calibrated digital images along with GPS coordinates, lengths and angles. The combination of a digital camera, submeter GPS, laser rangefinder and proprietary software within a single tool allows for the capture of field data efficiently and accurately.

Tools – Tools is the customized workflows and forms that are created within the desktop software and then uploaded into the IKE device. The type of measurement needed, in addition to the conditions and location of the object being measured determine which tool will be used.

Desktop – This Windows desktop software performs a number of functions, including the development of customized workflows for the IKE device. It also provides measurement calculations for attachments and spans from photos captured in the field and has the ability to generate reports in a variety of formats.

Integration – IKE data in the original report format is a valuable resource, but the data has a broader impact across an organization when the information is integrated with engineering software, GIS data or back-end systems. The data can be generated in a number of industry standard formats.

Accessories – Each IKE unit ships with a hard-shell case and a variety of accessories to support field use. Accessories include stabilizing tripod, glare shield, vehicle charger, extra batteries, screen protector and more.

IKE is the all-in-one utility data device that captures a geolocated photo of an asset from which accurate measurements can be made. IKE combines GPS, laser rangefinder, digital camera and a digital compass into an all-in-one field data collection device. All data captured with the IKE device is imported into IKE desktop software for measuring and custom report creation. IKE desktop also allows for custom form creation that represents your day-to-day field collection experience.

IKE Tools is a Windows Mobile software installed on the device for capturing specific data points you require. The following Tools represent core IKE functionality.

TrueSize Image – Capture a calibrated photo of a utility or telecommunications pole with one shot, and then transfer to a PC application for measuring the heights of the pole and its attachments.

Target Position – Point the IKE device at a remote object, such as a tree, pole or building, and capture its GPS location using the on-board GPS, laser rangefinder and compass. One shot and you’re on to the next object.

Missing Line Distance  – Calculate the horizontal distance between any two objects.

Span Height – Calculate the vertical height above ground of a point on a span, for example, the mid-span height of a cable or wire.

Local Point – Captures the GPS location of the device, not the remote object. It eliminates the error introduced from the laser and compass; therefore, it is more accurate than Target position.

All photos captured on the IKE device are easily imported into IKE desktop software where pole measurements are completed. IKE desktop provides the following features:

  • Import and manage data from all your field data collection jobs using an intuitive interface.

The power of data becomes enhanced when a field-to-finish solution is provided through direct integration. ikeGPS has developed partnerships with several of the utility industries most prominent pole modeling and analysis software, including PLS-POLE, SPIDA®Calc and O-Calc Pro.

The IKE device can be programmed to capture measurements in formats that allow the data to upload directly into these third-party software. This eliminates the tedious and error-prone process of manually entering data.

Sub Meter GPS: Upgraded antenna board with sub meter accuracy**, 16 L1 frequency, C/A code channels, <35 seconds to first fix, < 25 Seconds to Restart (Warm)typical autonomous accuracy of <1.5m HRMS in non-SBAS coverage areas.

Device Shell and Display: Streamlined case built “Military Tough” for durability and ease of operation. Magnesium alloy with aluminum internal chassis. Power/USB/RS232 connections and ¼” standard camera style tripod mount.

    • Resistive touch-screen display is transflective (for high visibility in sunlight) and measures 3.5” diagonally with 320×240 pixel resolution.
    • Rugged yet lightweight design provides IP67 protection (dust and waterproof), meets MIL-STD-810F and 1 meter drop onto concrete shock test. The device measures 11” x 4.3” x 2.4” (280mm x 110mm x 60mm) and weighs only 35 oz (<1 kg).
